Welcome to the April 23, 2007 edition of the
Thirteen Thirteeners Carnival.

Please remember that Thursday Thirteen posts are not included in the Carnival.

Jessica The Rock Chick presents Ring My Bell posted at Life is RANTastic!, saying, “My life on Hysteria lane.”

Woah! So life for Edie Britt The Rock Chick on Hysteria Lane is a little like a soap opera Desperate Housewives.

Meanwhile, Edie is arriving at her house which is across the street from Lynette’s. She has been busy all day running errands. When the three women in the van see Edie drive by, they duck down and hope that she doesn’t notice them. Edie does see them and the sight makes her giggle. She waits until they sit upright and waves at them. (You know, just to make them crazy.)

Karen presents Breathing Easier posted at Write From Karen, saying, “There are times when moms know, they just know, something is not quite right with their children. This was one of those times.”

After days of knowing that something wasn’t right with her son, Karen tried remedies for his asthma that had worked in the past, but nothing was working this time. Even though she was being told that she was over reacting she KNEW something was wrong ….

So, they took an x-ray of his chest and there was indeed excess fluid in the lower part of his lungs. Only it wasn’t an asthma attack this time, but bacterial pneumonia. Luckily, we had caught it in the beginning stages so we could avoid the worst of it.

Tess Termulo presents Battle Scars posted at Prudence and Madness. This is a beautifully written essay on maneuvering through bad relationships and finding oneself in the process.

“My past relationships had been devastating. Yet, here I am, ready and waiting for the next one, which hopefully will be the last. In daring to be free from the hold of fear, I am proud of my battle scars.”

I hope you’ll take the time to go by and read this article. It’s a very good read.

Friday’s Child presents “THE GLORY OF A GIFT” posted at Friday’s Child. Friday’s Child offers a thoughtful article on the meaning of giving. She gives us the reasons people use for not giving and concludes that it’s not what you give, but that you give.

We feel joy when we give, because basically, we are satisfying a deep desire. In this sense, giving of ourselves for the betterment of the less fortunate is the cheapest and most effective mental therapy available today. To deny ourselves the joy of giving is to deny our basic needs.

The Crazy King of Clowns presents Chocolateism posted at Infinitely CRAZY.

What do you want to know about chocolate? It’s here, most anything you want to know. It’s enough to send us chocoholics into a coma!! Be careful when you go read it, The Crazy King of Clowns should be handing out Hersey Bars with this post!

Chocolate has over 500 flavor components, more than twice the amount found in strawberry and vanilla.

mom23guys1girl presents I Want to be sane with 4 kids in Enola: The Happiness Project posted at I Want to be sane with 4 kids in Enola and so she looks for the keys to happiness. Worth the read, go check it out.

Expressing my happiness seems easy once you are in the moment. It kind of goes with the Uncle quote above. Tell your friend, I’m having a great time…it sure is nice to get out for some grown-up time. Tell your sons, This banquet is lots of fun isn’t it…and look, you got this award and that award and we got this nice dinner and Nana, Gramps and Aunt Tricia are here. Gosh, this is fun.

Stephanie presents Vacation on a Budget posted at Stop the Ride!.

Stephanie gives some great tips on taking what looks like a lovely vacation for six (yes SIX) on a $1,000 budget! I’m looking forward to reading how it works out. She’s going to give a report when she returns from her trip.

Stephanie presents Car Farts posted at Adventures in the 100 Acre Wood. I admit, this wasn’t what I expected from the title. I was expecting the sputtering and spewing of a bad engine. Stephanie, or rather her children, found a whole new meaning to ‘car farts. HEH! You too can make your car fart!

David at Third World County says Live Long, So What?. He has found out that he COULD as in MIGHT live two hours longer for every hour of vigorous exercise. Those two hours don’t seem to interest him much …. )

Sure, you say, I might have an “extra” hour to do these things as a result of “vigorous exercise”. Might. But I have those hours now, so why waste ‘em with time set aside for “vigorous exercise”?

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of the thirteener carnival using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.
